Starting this fall the University of Nebraska – Omaha is adding a new LGBTQ/Sexual Studies minor to its curriculum.
Associate Professor of Sociology Dr. Jay Irwin says this program will be valuable to students as they enter the corporate and business world.
Dr. Irwin says, “It is going to focus on all sorts of identities in terms of sexuality and gender. Especially if someone is interested in working in a large corporation or even with a small non-profit. If they are interested in working with communities. LGBTQ folks are here in Omaha and are going to interact with the population.”
Dr. Irwin says there is a common misunderstanding regarding sexuality and gender. Everyone has a gender and sexuality but they are two distinct things. The program will explore those differences.
