Plans are being unveiled to put up a gigantic 80-foot-tall flag pole that will hold a huge version of Old Glory that measures 20-by-30 feet.
Rick Smith, of Kearney’s two Rotary Clubs, says it’ll be a great way to show our national pride.
“Fifteen-million people a year drive by the arch,” Smith says. “We are going to set up an American flag to honor our veterans and service people, firefighters and just everybody.”
A fundraiser is planned for this coming Monday night at the Kearney Knights of Columbus Hall, with a Brats, Burgers and Beer event and an auction.
If all goes as planned, the flag will be flying beside the Archway with a dedication ceremony on September 11th.
