State troopers made a couple of drug busts during weekend traffic stops, including one which netted nearly 24 pounds of heroin.
The Nebraska State Patrol reports a trooper pulled a sports utility vehicle over Sunday afternoon a mile east of the Waverly exit on Interstate 80. During a search of the vehicle, the trooper found nine packages of heroin stuffed into two false compartments in the passenger area of the SUV. The heroin weighed 23.6 pounds, according to NSP.
25-year-old Rodrigo Jordon Gastelum-Flores of San Ysidro, CA has been charged with possession with the intent to sell the drugs. He has been jailed in Lancaster County.
On Saturday, a trooper stopped a sports utility vehicle on I-80 east of Grand Island. A NSP Police Service Dog latched on to the odor of marijuana in the SUV. A probably cause search led to the seizure of 131 pounds of marijuana, contained in five packages in a large bag in the cargo area of the vehicle.
30-year-old Nathan W. Morgan of Pocahontas, AK, the driver of the SUV, has been charged with intent to sell the marijuana and is in jail in Hall County.
