All pediatric patients at Nebraska Medicine were super heroes Thursday. Lab scientist Brenda Jershin says every April during Lab Week they try to come up with a project to give back to a special cause outside of the lab. This year they thought it would be nice to do something for all the pediatric patients at the hospital and came up with the idea “Super Capes for Super Kids”.
Jershin says they held a contest to come up with a cape design. She says they used a bit of lab humor and sold “candy grams” in clean specimen cups to raise money for the project. That was a hit with over 1,200 sold.
The winning cape design is blue with the Nebraska Medicine Logo and the words, “Extraordinary Kids”. Lab staff distributed the super hero capes to children on Thursday. Jershin says while some were a bit shy of strangers most of the children were anxious to try them out.
