Findings being sent to Vatican as Boys Town founder is considered for sainthood

June 18, 2015 By Karla James

A big step is about to take place in the process of seeking sainthood for Father Edward Flanagan, the founder of Nebraska’s Boys Town.

Father Ryan Lewis is a delegate for the Omaha Archdiocese and says after many years of research they are ready to send their findings to the Vatican.

Father Lewis says they have been interviewing people that knew Father Flanagan and they are lucky that Boys Town did an excellent job of documenting his life. He says basically this process is similar to a background check.

Father Lewis says, “We certainly view his life as heroic and a priest who worked with the poor and children for his entire life and in an exemplary way, I think we have a saint on our hands.”

Father Lewis says if Rome likes what they see they declare him Venerable and the sainthood process continues. He says the Archdiocese will then start the process of looking for miracles.
