The Douglas County Sheriff’s Department is investigating an officer involved shooting in the parking lot of the Kwik Shop at 156th and Blondo around 7 am. A Douglas County Sheriff’s deputy was already in the store when the clerk told him an intoxicated man was leaving the building.
Sheriff Tim Dunning says the deputy followed the man outside and there was a struggle. The deputy was able to send out a call for back-up and shortly after the man pulled out a gun and pointed it at the deputy’s head.
Dunning says when the second deputy arrived at the scene the man then fired his gun once. That deputy returned fire striking the man several times.
He was rushed to a hospital in critical condition. Neither deputy was injured.
The deputies involved are now on administrative leave as the investigation moves forward.
