A 74-year-old Oregon woman has died after slipping off a dock at a northeast Nebraska lake and falling into the water.
The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission has not released the name of the woman from Oakland, Oregon.
According to Game and Parks, witnesses report the woman was boating with her family at Willow Creek State Recreation Area near Pierce. She stepped off the boat onto the dock when it appears she lost her balance and fell off the end of the dock into the water. Family members dove in after her and removed her from the water. Witnesses began performing CPR.
Game and Parks as well as Pierce County Sheriff’s Office emergency personnel responded, taking the woman to Faith Regional Medical Center in Norfolk. Hospital personnel were unable to revive her.
Game and Parks reports the woman was wearing an inflatable life jacket, but apparently could not deploy it.
