Lawmakers are reacting to the landmark deal with Iran regarding their nuclear program. United States Sen. Ben Sasse says there is good reason to be very concerned.
Senator Sasse says, “Our allies are scared to death and you know they are not going to sit idly by as the worlds largest state sponsor of terror becomes a nuclear threshold state and our opponents in the region are all celebrating in the streets. Iran was changing ‘death to America’ two days before this deal was announced and we are pretending somehow this will lead to a massive change of heart.
Senator Sasse believes this deal will actually stimulate more instability and more of an arms race in that region. He believes that countries like Saudi Arabia and Egypt will all want to get bombs to defend themselves from Iran having a bomb. He says, “If you have a nuclear Middle East I think you will see the use of those weapons there.”
Once Congress gets the terms of the deal they have a 60 day window to review it. If they vote against it President Obama will likely veto their decision and Congress will need two-thirds majority vote for an override.
