It is a big day on Saturday for the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission. Spokesman Greg Wagner says the state’s newest recreation area officially opens to the public.
The Danish Alps is located about a mile from Hubbard, Nebraska. That is located about 1:45 minutes north of Omaha or 10 miles southwest of Sioux City. The 746 acre recreation area includes 220 acre Kramper Lake, named after a local farmer and conservationist. Activities include bird watching, fishing, hiking and primitive and modern camping.
The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission will offer free kayaking from 9 until 4 on Saturday. They will also host fishing clinics, naturalist activities and hiking. The official ribbon cutting is at 11 am with refreshments to follow.
