Hastings College has always played an entertaining brand of football under coach Tony Harper but it is defense that he feels will get the program to the next level. The Broncos are looking to make strides after giving up 469 yards per game in posting a 6-4 record in 2014.
“I think that’s going to be the thing that hopefully gets us to the next level, said Harper. “You look at the great teams in our conference like Morningside, Northwestern and Doane, they all have good offenses but they also have great defenses. We have got to step our game up on that side.”
Harper scrapped the Bronco’s three-three stack defense during a bye week last season and installed a four-two that he feels better suits his players.
Hastings opens the season on Saturday with a visit to Kansas Wesleyan.
