Call it the unofficial start of the football season.
At least, for the fans.
Lines stretched the length of the football field at Memorial Stadium for Nebraska Football Fan Day Wednesday as Husker fans sought autographs from their favorite players.
The star of the day, though, seemed to not be any player, but the new head coach: Mike Riley.
The line to meet Coach Riley extended much farther than the lines for players as fans brought a variety of items for the new coach to sign. He couldn’t get to everyone. Scheduled meetings prevented the coach from staying past 7:30pm. Still, he was mobbed as he made his way out of the stadium.
The autograph session lasted 90 minutes.
It seems the next longest line waited for quarterback Tommy Armstrong. Runningbacks and receivers also drew attention as well as selected defensive players who hope to continue the tradition of the Black Shirts.
