A manhunt that began in southeastern Nebraska has ended with the arrest of a shooting suspect in northeastern Kansas.
Brown County, Kansas authorities took 34-year-old Desiderio Hernandez of Falls City into custody early this morning after a nearly seven-hour standoff in Horton.
Horton Police Chief John Calhoon says his department followed up on a tip to a trailer house Wednesday evening. Police attempted to talk Hernandez into surrendering to no avail. Eventually, a SWAT team was called in. Calhoon says officers used a Taser to subdue Hernandez and take him into custody.
An extensive manhunt for Hernandez began early Wednesday morning after 31-year-old Joseph Debella, Jr. of Falls City was shot and critically injured.
Hernandez is being held in the Brown County Jail awaiting extradition to Nebraska to face a charge of Attempted First Degree Murder; suspected in the shooting of Debella.
Debella was flown to Bryan Trauma Center West Campus in Lincoln where he is listed in critical condition, according to the Nebraska State Patrol.
NSP says the investigation into the shooting continues.
