A Falls City man who led authorities on a manhunt which ended in his arrest in Kansas has been formally charged with attempted second-degree murder.
34-year-old Desiderio Hernandez stands accused of shooting and wounding 31-year-old Joseph Debella, Jr. at a residence in Falls City August 5th.
Debella remains in critical condition at Bryan West hospital in Lincoln.
Hernandez is being held on $1.5 million bond until his court date August 24th.
Richardson County authorities charge Hernandez with shooting Debella, then fleeing the scene, crossing the border into Kansas where he was taken into custody by the Horton Police Department. Officers had to use a Taser to subdue him, according to the police chief, after a seven-hour standoff.
Two others have been charged in the shooting.
29-year-old John Hall of Shubert has been charged with possession of a controlled substance and conspiracy to destroy evidence. Authorities allege Hall went to the house after the shooting to remove drug paraphernalia.
19-year-old Brett Winters of Falls City has also been charged with conspiracy to destroy evidence. Police say he went to the house after the shooting, too.
