Lincoln Police Department spokeswoman Katie Flood says a mini-van taxicab collided with the bike at an intersection around 5:30 in the morning.
“A silver mini-van was eastbound on Cornhusker. Meanwhile, a bicyclist was northbound from north 1st Street. The two collided in the intersection,” Flood tells reporters during a media briefing.
Flood says police were able to speak with witnesses after the accident.
“Witnesses advised that the light was green for eastbound traffic,” according to Flood. “So, at this time it appears that the bicyclist may have disregarded the signals and went across the intersection against the light. In addition, there were no lights on that bicycle.”
The bicyclist is not being identified pending notification of his family.
The investigation continues.
