Nebraska football coach Mike Riley says sophomore receiver De’Mornay Pierson-El underwent successful surgery, Thursday, to repair a broken bone in his right foot. The preseason All-American suffered the injury on Tuesday in a non-contact drill.
Pierson-El ranked second nationally in punt return average in 2014, and tied for the national lead with three punt return touchdowns.
Riley has said he expects Pierson-El to be sidelined for six to eight weeks.
“It’s one thing about being healed and another thing about being ready to play, so we’ll wait until that happens”, said Riley. The good news is everything has gone well and we really believe he is going to play a good portion of this season.”
With Pierson-El on the sideline the Huskers will turn to junior Jordan Westerkamp to return punts.
