Lexington Police say 52-year-old Michael Holloway of Cozad was found unresponsive in his jail cell shortly before 4 p.m.
Holloway was taken to Lexington Regional Medical Center by ambulance where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
An autopsy is planned later this week to determine the exact cause of death.
The Lexington Police Department has been assigned to investigate the death with the case to be forwarded to a grand jury.
It’s unclear why Holloway was in jail, but court records indicate he was arrested earlier this month for disturbing the peace and in July for possession of methamphetamine.
