A thrilling finish to the 2014 season has the Doane College football team thinking big. The Tigers used a last second touchdown to cap a 49-48 win over nationally top ranked Morningside to finish 7-3 and coach Matt Franzen has 16 starters back from that team.
“I think it give our team a lot of confidence in that we can line up and compete against anybody we play”, said Franzen. “I think we’ve got the makings of a pretty good football team.”
Franzen will continue to feature a two-man rotation at quarterback with senior Brandon Stuart and sophomore Jack Shadley.
“Jack is a big threat with his feet. He can get out and run and break the pocket and do some things there”, said Franzen. “Brandon is more of a prototypical pocket passer and has a really strong arm.”
Doane was picked to finish third in the Great Plains Athletic Conference race and opens on Saturday with a visit to McPherson College in Kansas.
