The Nebraska defense is preparing to face a high tempo BYU offense in Saturday’s season opener against the Cougars. Husker defensive coordinator Mark Banker says they practiced exclusively against the no huddle during preseason camp.
“The play doesn’t stop when the ball carrier hits the ground it stops once to stand back in your position”, said Banker. “Then it becomes a true test of communication too because everybody has to get the call from the sideline and then echo it amongst each other so we can execute.”
Husker senior cornerback Daniel Davie says it will be crucial for the secondary to win the one on one battles.
“They’ve got two 6-6 receivers so they will be looking to get them the ball because they are taller than us”, said Davie. “A lot of jump ball situations so as long as we win those one on one battles we should be fine.”
