Patience has paid off for Nebraska tight end David Sutton. A year ago, the Lincoln native did not even know if he would be back for this season as he was buried on the depth chart. But Sutton stayed with it and now as he begins his fifth season with the program he is listed as co-number one on the depth chart.
” It definitely didn’t happen the way I envisioned it. I have hoping that early in my career I would get on the field and get some meaningful minutes but obviously that didn’t happen”, said Sutton. “I just persevered and kept working. This is obviously the place I wanted to be.”
Everything changed for Sutton after Bo Pelini was fired as Husker coach at the end of the regular season.
“When I got the most discouraged last year the coaching change finally happened”, said Sutton.” I think that could have been the best thing that ever happened for me.”
Sutton played in 12 games last season mostly on special teams.
