Nebraska coach Mike Riley says he wants more production from a running game when the Huskers host South Alabama on Saturday. The offense generated only 126 yards of rushing on 37 carries in a 33-28 loss to BYU. That’s well below the 240 yards on the ground the Huskers averaged in 2014.
Riley says he is especially concerned about a lack of production on runs involving the tailback.
“I’m not indicting our tailbacks. I think we’ve got good players there”, said Riley. “The running game when I talk about it talks about all those guys blocking for the runner, too. So we’ve just got to do a better job with that and have the right plays.”
Riley says defensive end Jack Gangwish may miss a few weeks after suffering an elbow injury on the final play of the game against BYU. Tight end David Sutton will miss up to eight weeks with a severely sprained ankle and punter Sam Foltz is questionable for this week’s game with an ankle injury.
