The Nebraska defense is concerned about speed at the skill positions as they prepare for Saturday’s contest against South Alabama. The Jaguars are coming off a 33-22 victory over Gardner-Webb and Nebraska defensive coordinator Mark Banker says South Alabama has several players who transferred from Alabama-Birmingham after that school dropped its football program last year.
“It’s around four or five that play for them”, said Banker. The quarterback, the tight end, a lineman and a running back.”
South Alabama running back Xavier Johnson rushed for 121 yards in their season opening win. He scored on a 56-yard swing pass as well as a 92-yard run.
Jaguars coach Joey Jones says the junior from Tampa has made huge strides since last season.
“Xavier is one of those guys that has really changed everything about himself from a character standpoint and physically”, said Jones. “You could tell this summer he had his mind made up that he was going to be a really good football player.”
