With senior defensive end Jack Gangwish out with an elbow injury the played looked upon to step up in his place this week is redshirt freshman Freedom Akinmoladun. The native of Grandview, Missouri was a tight end a year ago but gained some valuable experience in a season opening loss to BYU.
“It gives me a lot of confidence that I got a game under my bet and got my feet wet”, said Akinmoladun. “I know I needed to keep improving, keep working and get ready for the next game.”
Husker defensive coordinator Mark Banker has been impressed with the progress Akinmoladun has made since moving to defense.
“Freedom has size, he’s got good strength and is agile”, said Banker. “His biggest thing throughout spring, summertime and camp was to minimize his errors.”
Akinmoladun recorded two tackles, including a sack, against BYU.
