Lincoln police report 16-year-old Justice Coleman died from the injuries suffered in the accident early Sunday morning.
Police spokesman Katie Flood says Coleman was driving a Mitsubishi when it drifted into the other lane on O Street, a major street in Lincoln.
“It appears that the Mitsubishi crossed over the center lanes of traffic and collided with that truck,” Flood tells reporters during a media briefing.
The driver of the pick-up was treated and released at a local hospital, according to police.
Flood says questions remain in wake of the fatal wreck.
“It is unknown at this time what caused her to change course,” according to Flood. “We are still investigating the accident.”
The death of Coleman has hit hard the student body at Pius the 10th High School in Lincoln. Crisis counselors are meeting with students at the high school. A mass and rosary were held in her memory Sunday evening.
