The Husker defense is working this week to prevent the deep ball. It was one of the few ways South Alabama moved the ball in Nebraska’s 48-9 win last week and defensive coordinator Mark Banker says the cornerbacks need to do a better job of winning the ball in the air.
“It does you no good to win at the line of scrimmage”, said Banker. You have got to win at the point the ball is being thrown at.”
Husker corner Jonathan Rose says defending the deep ball is a point of focus as they prepare for this week’s visit to Miami.
“We have to assert ourselves more and we’ve got to be more physical so teams won’t feel they have the opportunity to take that shot”, said Rose. “This week at practice I feel like the emphasis for us is going to be deep ball coverage.”
