The state Department of Labor reports the unemployment rate last month was 2.8%, a tenth of a percent higher than in July.
Despite the increase, total non-farm employment topped one million in Nebraska last month.
The Omaha metro unemployment rate dropped slightly; from 3.2% in July to 3% in August.
The Lincoln metro unemployment rate also dropped by two-tenths of a percent to 2.3% in August.
Nebraska still has the lowest unemployment rate among the 50 states, just ahead of North Dakota, which has an unemployment rate of 2.9%.
Hawaii ranks third at 3.5%.
The national unemployment rate is 5.1%.
