The transportation industry in Nebraska is in desperate need of workers. Deb Christensen is with the Nebraska Department of Labor and says they are holding a transportation, logistics and distribution job fair on Tuesday and dozens of companies are ready to hire now.
Christensen says 35 companies have signed on to the job fair and they are looking for drivers, fork lift operators, sales representatives warehouse workers, dispatchers, office staff and more. She says this is a huge industry and in this area alone they could use 300 to 500 truck drivers if they were available.
Christensen says, “We do have a program, it is called JDNEG and if you qualify for it and are interested in becoming a CDL driver there is a possibility that the Nebraska Department of Labor could pay for that training. We encourage people to come and talk to our representatives and see if you can get that free training.”
The job fair will be held from 1 to 4 pm on Tuesday, September 22nd at the Metropolitan Community College South Omaha Campus in the ITC Building at 27th and Q Streets. Christensen says bring your resume and be ready to interview on-the-spot.
