Washington DC, New York City and Philadelphia are getting ready this week for a visit from Pope Francis. Congressman Jeff Fortenberry says this is a historic visit because it is the first time a pope will address Congress. He can only speculate on what the Pope’s message will be.
Congressman Fortenberry says, “I hope he talks about the issue of religious liberties which we have never faced this aggressively before with the advent of a health care system that is forcing people to violate their believe of conscious and religious faith. Plus the gross nature and the horror in the Middle East where the Christian community particularly but other religious minorities are being wiped out. He has called it genocide. He has caused it a scandal of silence and international community has to speak and speak clearly. I think he will talk about the migration crisis in Europe. He might touch on that in terms of our own immigration debate as well.”
Fortenberry believes the Pope will also address how we have to focus more on humanity where no person is left behind.
