After a sluggish start to the third quarter, Nebraska got back on track late in period to lead 29-7 heading into the fourth quarter.
The Huskers started the quarter on offense, but a tipped pass turned into an interception for Southern Miss. That set up great field position for the Golden Eagles. Two plays later, Ito Smith scored on a 17 yard touchdown run to give Southern Miss their first points of the game.
Both teams missed field goals later in the quarter before Southern Miss drove inside Nebraska’s 10-yard-line. But the Nebraska defense stopped the Eagles on fourth down to take over. The Huskers then marched 93-yards down the field for an important touchdown. The drive was capped by Tommy Armstrong Jr.’s second touchdown pass of the game, this time to Taariq Allen.
Southern Miss has the ball to start the fourth quarter.
