A Texas pilot has died after his plane crashed in the Nebraska Panhandle.
The Dawes County Sheriff’s Office reports 61-year-old John Prickett of Double Oak, Texas was the only person onboard the plane which went down southwest of Chadron in extreme northwestern Nebraska.
The Dawes County Attorney’s office reports Prickett’s family contacted Nebraska authorities when his plane failed to reach Alliance. Prickett was flying from Chadron to Alliance to meet with his family.
Authorities report Prickett was piloting a Beechcraft P35 Bonanza. The plane crashed southwest of Chadron around 5 o’clock Tuesday afternoon.
Two spotter planes found the wreckage in a remote, wooded area.
The sheriff’s office says both the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the crash.
