Nebraska Innovation Campus is open, but far from completed.
Executive Director Dan Duncan wants Nebraska Innovation Campus to live up to its name.
“Innovation Campus is created really to develop a place where private companies and the university can come together to create things that they couldn’t if they weren’t working closely together,” Duncan tells Nebraska Radio Network.
Duncan says even the structure of Innovative Campus serves a purpose.
“We’re going to look far more like a downtown than we are a university campus. Buildings are going to be much closer together. We’re going to try to drive vertical construction as much as we can, because you want that density and diversity of ideas,” according to Duncan.
Classes are being held and research underway at Nebraska Innovation Campus. The university hopes to lure more private investment and even make the campus attractive for private companies to locate.
Nebraska Innovation Campus occupies 380,000 square feet at present with the ultimate goal of 2.2 million square feet.
