Representatives from 75 universities from across the country are in Omaha attending the Coalition of Urban and Metropolitan Universities conference. Their goal is to use their social assets and volunteer time to make a difference in the communities they reside. The University of Nebraska – Omaha is hosting the event and Coalition President Richard Guarasci of Wagner College says that includes helping with K-12 issues, high school graduation rates to using their allied health faculty and students deal with health care issues in neighborhoods.
Guarasci is also very impressed with programs the University of Nebraska – Omaha has in place with their Community Engagement Center. He says, “They have this wonderful building they put up which houses all their civic engagement folks who manage all of their engagements. That is a model you really don’t see in other campuses to really bring your partners together on campus and link with faculty and students.”
The three day conference wraps up today.
