Three pimps have been arrested and two victims rescued in the Omaha area during a nationwide crackdown on human trafficking.
The FBI reports that nationally 153 pimps were arrested and 149 underage trafficking victims rescued.
The initiative was called Operation Cross Country IX, operated by the FBI and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children working with state and local law enforcement.
“It is a top priority for the FBI to protect America’s children and free them from the cycle of victimization,” Thomas R. Metz, the FBI’s special agent in charge of the Omaha division, said in a written statement released by his office. “Through our strategic partnerships with state and local law enforcement agencies, specifically the Child Exploitation Task Force, we are able to make a difference.”
This was the largest initiative in the nine years the FBI has conducted, with 53 FBI field offices and 73 child exploitation task forces operating in 135 cities.
