Sarpy County Court Judge Robert Wester has found 28-year-old Aaron Thompson and 36-year-old Michael Degarmo guilty of one count each of negligent child abuse, a misdemeanor.
The two reached a deal with the Sarpy County Attorney’s Office which dropped three counts of misdemeanor child abuse.
The two lived with Jasmine Thompson, born at the Bellevue Medical Center with methamphetamine in her system. She was pronounced dead two months later.
Three other children lived in the home, ranging in age from 18-months to four years. All have been removed from the home.
Thompson is Jasmine’s father as well as the father of at least two of the other children. Thompson agreed to cooperate in juvenile court as part of the plea deal.
The charges against the men could lead to a maximum sentence of one year in jail and a $1,000 fine. A sentencing hearing has been scheduled for December.
