Gage County Attorney and Coroner Roger Harris tells Nebraska Radio Network affiliate KWBE a witness to the crash said it appeared the light plane went straight down. The debris didn’t cover much of an area in a soybean field southwest of Cortland which had been harvested.
Harris says the flight originated out of Lincoln. He’s not sure if the plane planned to travel anywhere or was just returning to Lincoln.
No names have been released, yet.
Cortland Fire and Rescue personnel rushed to the scene Saturday morning. The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the accident.
Doug Kennedy, KWBE, contributed to this story.
