BSDC employee accused of abuse bound over to district court

October 19, 2015 By Nebraska Radio Network Contributor

gavel thumbnailAn employee of the Beatrice State Developmental Center, accused of abusing a resident, has waived his preliminary hearing and has been bound over to Gage County District Court.

36-year-old Shawn Ebeling of Diller is charged with a felony count of abuse of a vulnerable adult.

The Nebraska State Patrol arrested Ebeling last month. Ebeling is alleged to have abused a resident of Unit 404 in the State Building, on the BSDC campus, August 9th.

A second charge of abuse has been dropped.

Arraignment has been set for November 18th.

According to the state patrol investigation, Ebeling admitted to becoming upset when the resident tried to bite him. Ebeling is accused of hitting the victim twice after the individual attempted to bite Ebeling on the shoulder.

A witness told authorities that Ebeling then grabbed the alleged victim, struck his face on a handle attached to a fuse box, causing a bleeding injury above the eye.  The reporting party told investigators that Ebeling also grabbed the victim and threw the victim four feet down a hallway.
