Northwestern coach Pat Fitzgerald is offering no excuses as the Wildcats return to the practice field to prepare for Saturday’s game against Nebraska in Memorial Stadium.
After sprinting out to a 5-0 start and a number 13 national ranking the Wildcats have suffered lopsided defeats to Michigan and Iowa.
“Guys have got to make plays and we have been void of that a little bit the last two weeks and our guys know that”, said Fitzgerald. “I want to see them have fun. I want to see them play with passion and cut it loose and make plays. When we have done that we have won five games.”
A rejuvenated ground game would help Northwestern’s cause. The Wildcats are averaging 190 yards of rushing per game but managed only 38 yards in a 38-0 loss at Michigan and just 51 yards in a 40-10 setback to Iowa.
