Bellevue State Senator Tommy Garrett is a strong supporter of the 2nd Amendment that allows all Americans the right to keep and bear arms in the United States. He plans to introduce a bill in the upcoming session that would basically eliminate gun free zones in the state of Nebraska for those with a legal conceal carry permit.
Senator Garrett says, “I’ve already talked to some of my colleagues in the Legislature and they are pro-gun and they believe in this. Obviously it will be a fight with certain elements but we have a constitutional right to protect ourselves. I would rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it.”
Currently guns are not allowed in schools, churches, hospitals, banks, colleges and at fundraisers. Senator Garrett says individual businesses would still be allowed to make decisions on whether guns would be allowed or not.
Senator Garrett says, “Every time one of these unfortunate incidents happen, like in the community college in Oregon, is the vast majority of Americans go out and buy more guns and ammunition and sign up for the NRA because they understand we have a right to defend ourselves. Nothing can be worse than being a victim on one of these situations.”
