Omaha police are investigating a deadly pedestrian accident early Thursday morning at 40th and Leavenworth Streets. Investigators say a GMC Yukon was traveling eastbound and struck a pedestrian around 2:30 a.m. Police say there are indications the male victim may have been lying down in the street near the city’s bus terminal. There are also indications may had been under the influence of alcohol.
Omaha rescue was called and pronounced the man dead at the scene. Speed and alcohol in relation to the driver of the vehicle are not believed to be factors in this accident. The driver has been identified as 19 year old Nathan Shaughenessy of Modale, Iowa. The name of the victim has not been released.
