Seven years after the review began, President Barack Obama has rejected TransCanada’s Presidential Permit request to build the Keystone XL pipeline.
During his statement, the president said, “The State Department has decided that the Keystone XL pipeline would not serve the national interest of the United States. I agree with that decision.”
Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts released a statement following the ruling saying, “Keystone XL would have brought good-paying jobs and much-needed tax revenue to Nebraska’s counties. President Obama’s politically-motivated decision to reject this project puts the jobs and this tax revenue at risk. While the President says that approving Keystone XL would be a hindrance to building a clean energy economy, his own State Department’s research shows otherwise. Just last year, the department announced that it was unlikely that Keystone XL would impact greenhouse gas emissions.”
