Marcy Brandt, vice president of the Minden Chamber of Commerce, says the community is about to kick off its season-long festivities with its biggest-ever celebration to mark the 100-year anniversary.
Brandt says, “We started planning about a year-and-a-half ago and started working on making this a really great community-wide, area-wide, statewide event where we could really celebrate this tradition that our community has had.”
This year’s theme is “100 Years of Gleam in 2015.”
“We really want to have a lot of things planned throughout the time the lights are on, so every year, it’s been from the day after Thanksgiving until New Year’s Eve,” Brandt says, “so we thought, let’s just plan events for that whole time period.”
Brandt says there’s a wide range of family-friendly events planned during the “Century of Lights” celebration, including the construction of an artificial ice rink on the square.
“We have pictures with Santa, a free movie, a parade and a carnival, a community choir concert,” Brandt says. “The Minden Community Players are doing ‘Amahl and the Night Visitors,’ and we have events here at the Opera House like ‘The Polar Express’ storytelling.”
The events kick off on Friday, November 27th. Learn more at mindenlights.weebly.com.
