Winter weather came a little early to western Nebraska today as severe storms hit southeastern Nebraska.
A number of accidents have been reported along numerous western Nebraska roadways, including Interstate 80.
The National Weather Service reports 4 ½ inches of wet, heavy snow fell in parts of western Nebraska. Temperatures are expected to drop to the mid-20’s overnight, creating slick conditions throughout the evening into morning.
Chase County Chief Deputy Mike Dukes cautions motorists to slow down.
“Watch for speeds. Drive slower than normal and drive for the condition,” Dukes tells Nebraska Radio Network affiliate High Plains Radio.
Even as the snow fell and the wind picked up in western and southwestern Nebraska, a brief tornado warning was issued in southeastern Nebraska’s Otoe County.
“But did not have any actual reports of any tornados touching down,” according to meteorologist Bill Tayler with the National Weather Service.
