Drunk driver is sentenced to jail time after fatal crash

GavelAn Elm Creek man convicted of vehicular homicide and drunken driving for a crash that killed his friend was sentenced Thursday in Hall County District Court to six months in jail and five years probation.

Forty-four-year-old Larry Gydesen was convicted of driving under the influence on the night of October 12, 2014 when his SUV crashed into a Grand Island detention pond.

A passenger, 44-year-old John Zebert of Grand Island drowned after the crash.

Police say Gydesen’s blood alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit at the time of the crash.
