Those receiving care at the Omaha Veterans Affairs Medical Center are getting help from the American Legion Auxiliary this holiday season. V-A Nebraska – Western Iowa Health Care System’s Director of Communication Will Ackerman says Auxiliary members have set up their annual Christmas Gift Shop for hospitalized veterans.
Ackerman says, “Veterans who are inpatients at the Omaha V-A Medical Center, receiving dialysis treatment or patients at the recovery center, they are allowed to select a certain number of free gifts for their loved ones. The Auxiliary purchases all of the gifts, wraps them and provides them back to the veteran to be able to give.”
Ackerman says the Auxiliary also has a gift cart and make the rounds to patients rooms who can’t make it to the gift shop. The gifts are purchased through donations from American Legion Posts around the state. The Auxiliary also has a gift shop set up at the Grand Island facility for veterans.
