Nebraska U-S Senator Ben Sasse traveled to San Bernardino and released a video following President Obama’s Sunday evening speech to the nation. Senator Sasse says Americans lack clarity. He says, “I do believe the American Constitutional system is an unbelievable gift that we have inherited and we should be clear about what it is. It’s clarity about what government exists to do to prevent violence. Violence that would kill us from abroad and violence internally in the country against different communities where there are big debates. America is about freedom of religion, freedom of the press, freedom of speech and freedom of assembly.”
Senator Sasse says the reality of this situation is terrorism itself is a tactic and that is something you cannot defeat. He says, “I think this is a decade’s long battle. I think the American people need to understand what a generational war looks like. When World War II was marching through Europe and Americans realized we were going to have to engage, people went slow before they decided to go to war and then there was a total commitment to win it. The reality of the battle we face now is that it is not against a tactic. Terrorism is one of many tactics. Whatever weaponry is used, terror is just a tactic and you can’t defeat a tactic. You have to defeat an enemy.”
Senator Sasse is a member of the Senate Homeland Security Committee and released a statement following the attack in San Bernardino that stated Washington must wake up to the fact that the crowd-sourcing of domestic terror is a reality.
