Hutchinson is fighting for his life at the Greeley hospital after being shot four times. Doctors say he’s battling infection and kidney problems. His daughter, Sarah, says family members are at his side.
“Nobody expects something like this to happen. Nobody is prepared for it,” she says, adding that her mother has only left the hospital room one time.
A sign is hanging on the hospital door that has Hutchinson’s badge number, 9-783, along with the words, “Possibly the toughest man alive” and the word “Possibly” is crossed out.
The family says the support has been overwhelming. A GoFundMe account has been set up that’s already raised more than $10,000. Also, bracelets and t-shirts are being made so supporters can show their solidarity.
Authorities say Neil Stretesky came out the front door of his house shooting when four law officers pulled up to serve that warrant. The 66-year-old Stretesky was shot to death by Sheriff Scott DeCoste. Stretesky was known to be violent and was accused of beating his 90-year-old father with a hammer last year.
