The Nebraska State Patrol is on the lookout for drivers who had one too many glasses of holiday cheer. State Patrol spokesperson Deb Collins says their “You Drink & Drive You Lose” campaign starts Friday, December 18th and runs through January 3, 2016.
As part of the campaign, troopers and communication specialists will work overtime hours that encompasses both Christmas and New Year’s holidays. A nearly $22,000 grant from the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety will pay for the extra enforcement.
Collins says drivers and motorists are also reminded to wear their seat belt, obey posted speed limits and never travel faster than conditions allow. If you suspect a reckless or impaired driver, Collins says call 9-1-1 immediately. If you are traveling and in need of non-emergency roadside assistance, you can also call the Nebraska State Patrol Highway Helpline at *55 from any cell phone of 1-800-5235-5555 from home phones.
