Nebraska safety Nate Gerry is looking forward to his return to the field on December 26th when the Huskers play UCLA in the Foster Farms Bowl. The junior from Sioux Falls, South Dakota was ejected from the loss to Iowa in the regular season finale after being penalized for targeting.
“It was awful and I could not even look at the field”, said Gerry. “I was a little disappointed in myself because I felt like I could have helped the team in the second half but I think the way they handled that call, personally, was not the way to do it. ”
Gerry was initially concerned the penalty would carry over and keep him on the sideline for the bowl game.
Husker defensive coordinator Mark Banker says the players have done a good job of juggling practice and final exams this week.
“I think they think it is a form of recess”, said Banker. “It has been good focused work with good attention to detail.”
