The Nebraska Humane Society in Omaha is investigating the break-in of a home where the intruders shot and killed the family dog. Vice President of Field Operations Mark Langan says they received the call on Saturday from a couple living near 38th and Bedford.
Langan says the couple was in the process of moving into a different home and had just returned to prior home to pick up the last load and to get their 11 month old Rottweiler, Bella. He says they found the dog in the basement. A necropsy showed the dog died of multiple gunshot wounds.
The couple stated Bella was still a puppy and very friendly. They say she would not have attacked. Langan says either the dog surprised the intruders or this was an act of cruelty. The Nebraska Humane Society is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the suspect or suspects.
