Nebraska volleyball swept into a national championship, easily brushing aside Texas in front of a partisan crowd of red in Omaha.
The Huskers, the number four seed, defeated the number three seeded Longhorns in three straight sets to win the NCAA women’s volleyball championship. Nebraska won 25-23, 25-23, and 25-21.
Nebraska finished its season with a 32-4 record and the fourth volleyball championship in team history. Nebraska also won a national championship in Omaha in 2006.
A record crowd of 17,561 watched the championship match at the CenturyLink Center.
Texas finished the season at 30-3.
Nebraska had lost five matches in a row to Texas and nine of their previous 10 matches.
Nebraska also won national championships in 1995, 2000, and 2006.
Freshman outside hitter Mikaela Foecke had a match-high 19 kills. She was named Most Outstanding Player of the final four.
