A young Cozad girl and her family are hoping to enjoy their best Christmas ever, thanks in part to the generosity of a Kearney police sergeant who recently decided to offer a little extra this holiday season.
Tina and Gary Hardin of Cozad were in Kearney to let their six-year-old granddaughter, Dezirae, visit with her mother.
They had briefly stopped at Yanney Park to rearrange some boxes inside their vehicle when they were approached by Kearney Police Sergeant Derek Luke who told them he wanted to make their day a little bit brighter.
He then gave them $50 and was gone before the couple had the chance to thank him for his generosity.
The Hardin’s had previously met with Kearney police in an effort to gain custody of their two grandchildren, but the generosity they received from Sergeant Luke was perhaps the best gift they could ask for this holiday season.
To show their appreciation, the Hardin’s have taken to the Kearney Police Department’s Facebook page to show Sergeant Luke just how grateful they are for his thoughtful act of kindness.
